Mafia II DLC Plans Announced
Company: 2K Games
Product: Mafia II
Mafia II is just over a month away, and the folks at 2K Games don't seem content to simply rest on their laurels as the game's launch approaches. Instead, they're busy stoking the flames of anticipation with announcements such as this one. Mafia II will be getting downloadable content, and there are some console-specific details.

The first downloadable pack, The Betrayal of Jimmy, will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. This sidestory shifts the focus from Vito Scaletta to the eponymous Jimmy. According to 2K's press release, Jimmy is basically the opposite of a cleaner. He's the one to call when the job needs to be finished, fast. The Betrayal of Jimmy falls in line with the DLC packs of other open-world games; it's a mission pack with a narrative core.

The Betrayal of Jimmy will be available on the day of Mafia II's launch. Furthermore, a voucher code for the DLC will be included with each new copy of the game; this seems to be 2K's plan to discourage gamers from buying used copies of Mafia II. Players without voucher codes can purchase The Betrayal of Jimmy on the PlayStation Network for $9.99.

Non-PlayStation 3 owners aren't being completely left out in the cold, so don't fret, Xbox 360 and PC owners. The second DLC pack, Jimmy's Vendetta, will be made available for all three launch platforms at an unknown time and price point. It's going to have the same basic structure of The Betrayal of Jimmy, but based on the name alone, it's difficult to guess if this episode might take place before or after the PS3-exclusive missions.

Both DLC packs will make use of online leaderboards, as well as a scoring system that tracks nearly every skillful action you take. This may help boost the title's replay value greatly, especially in competitive circles.

Mafia II will be released in North America on August 24, with the international launch following only three days later. Keep your eyes open for a demo in the weeks preceding, and check back later for a full review.
