Enjoy EVO Without Going Broke in Vegas
Company: Capcom
Product: EVO Championship Series
Fighting game fans rejoice! Seth Killian, Capcom Community Manager (and fighting game GOD,) just announced on his blog that the annual EVO Championship Series will be partnering with G4 TV for the largest EVO coverage ever! G4 TV has agreed to stream the entire two day event online from July 9 - July 11 on their online streaming service so fans can comment and offer feedback in real-time to the matches. G4 crew and staff will be on hand filming a segment that will air July 20 during a special episode of "X-Play."

This is huge news for gamers who don't have the means to travel to Las Vegas. Level Up, an online video production company, will produce the coverage while Stickam will host the stream. To make it easy, the entire event can be viewed online at www.G4tv.com/evo and for those lucky enough to be in attendance, Capcom has a special treat for fans and the community. They will be bringing a new playable demo version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (which won't hit retail until next year.) So if you planning on going to compete or spectate, the deal just got sweeter.

The tournament is held in Las Vegas every year and it is THE premiere tournament for all serious fighting game fans. Experts from across the gaming spectrum converge in one spot for 48 hours to beat down their opponents. EVO is primarily known for its enormous Street Fighter turnout, but this year will also host tournaments for the following games:
  • Tekken 6,
  • Super Street Fighter IV,
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix,
  • Tatsunoko vs. Capcom,
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2,
  • and Melty Blood: Actress Again

If you have never heard of EVO before, or are wondering what the big deal is about a bunch of people playing a few games, then you have never witnessed the magic first hand. Take this video for instance; it was filmed during the finals round of EVO 2004 featuring Daigo Umehara vs. Justin Wong. Daigo is playing as Ken, while Justin is playing Chun-Li. Just watch:

Amazing, right? Keep in mind that each one of those parries is an individual controller input that has to be timed correctly in order to achieve the full guard. Did I mention Daigo is the EVO Champion for 2009? He is. He will also be competing this year as well, presumably playing Super Street Fighter IV.

Moments like this are the reason EVO is big enough to get airtime on G4 TV and deals like this year's partnership are the sign of something big for the community. Be sure to tune in between July 9 - 11 to watch all the matches and make this year a hit so they can keep supporting their fans.
