Sony says, "Let Them Eat Cake!"
Company: SCEA
Product: PS3 First Birthday Cake
It's hard to believe that it's only been a year since the PS3 came into our lives. Here we stand, with one year gone by and we have 52 PS3 games reviewed or currently being reviewed. That's an average of one game per week. True, it's not as many games as the 360 has, but Sony has just dropped the price of a developer kit, in hopes of increasing the number of games for the coming year.

As it is, there were several good games for the PS3 this year, such as Need For Speed: Carbon, Call of Duty 3, Tony Hawk's Project 8, Armored Core 4, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 3, DiRT and Rachet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. All of these were among our Top Picks. Also, not yet scored, but amazing in their own rights are: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

To celebrate the PS3's first birthday, Sony sent a birthday cake to the GameVortex complex. Luckily for us, Sony used local bakeries to actually bake and deliver the cakes and we're lucky enough for that to be Gambino's Bakery; from what I read around the net, others weren't so lucky. The cake was a nice touch - one that caused me to reflect over the last year a bit.

What the PS3 needs now, however, is a larger library of games and some feeling of community. Dropping the dev kit's price and bringing in some fresh developers is a great idea, but the PS3 needs a community, a sense of belonging. PS3 gamers need a Home.

So, happy birthday, PS3! and, here's to a stronger year in 2008. Okay, now you've had your cake... get back to Folding! [Cracks whip]
