The world ends on August 29, 1997 -- at least for three billion people. Skynet, an artificially intelligent computer created for the military, fires nuclear missiles at Russia knowing that the ensuing counter-attack would wipe out the humans that control it. That is the future that awaits mankind, but the future hasn?t been written yet.

After Sarah Connor is saved from an attack by a ruthless killing machine (called a terminator), she is told that her not yet born son is the leader of a resistance to the machines in the future. Years later, after destroying the pursuing terminator and being caught trying to blow up a weapons factory, she is committed to a mental hospital and her son, John Connor, is taken away from her and put in a foster home. Aware that her son will now be the target, the resistance in the future sends a re-programmed terminator to the past to protect him. But, the new terminator that is sent by the machines is an advanced prototype, and will stop at nothing until John is dead.

The Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Extreme Edition DVD comes with all the bells and whistles you would expect with a special edition DVD. There is an audio commentary with the director, James Cameron, and co-writer William Wisher. On top of that, the interactive mode is a kick. But Disc 2 is where they pull out all the stops.

The second disc comes with the theatrical version of the film in high definition Windows Media 9 format. Requirements for playing the high definition video are quite steep, though. The box lists the recommended system as having a 3Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM, and a video display set on at least 1600x1200 pixels. The video will not disappoint, though. What you get is an amazingly detailed 1080p high definition video. For any fan of the Terminator films, this is definitely a must have.

Also included in the second disc are numerous features, such as a documentary on the role of T2 in the progression of digital effects in filmmaking, and an exclusive on-the-set montage featuring rare production footage. Action movie fans rejoice! The T2: Extreme Edition DVD aims to please.
