A couple of year ago, I started watching a show on Nickelodeon called Big Time Rush, mainly because I keep the TV on Nickelodeon a lot. Quickly though, I really starting watching the show and making sure that I didn't miss the new episodes. I couldn't figure out why I really liked it because it's obviously geared towards a more teenage crowd, which I haven't been a part of for many years. I friend of mine told me that the answer is simply Big Time Rush is the modern day version of the Monkees. These guys manage to capture the light-hearted fun without being so silly that you just cringe at the stupidity and wonder how they function in real life.

Big Time Rush is a boy band from Minnesota comprised of Kendall Knight (Kendall Schmidt), James Diamond (James Maslow), Carlos Garcia (Carlos Pena), and Logan Mitchell (Logan Henderson). They didn't start out as a boy band though. Really, they're hockey players who are best friends on and off the ice. James always dreamed of being a rock star. He wants to be famous and rich. When record producer Gustavo Rocque (Stephen Kramer Glickman) of Rocque records comes to their town with his assistant Kelly Wainwright (Tanya Chisholm) to find his next star, the guys all work to help get James to that audition. Once there, they're all stuck trying out though, even though Carlos and Logan don't even sing. It's a long road for these guys to get to California. Obviously you know they make it or there wouldn't be a show, but you need to watch the show to find out how they make it.

Kendall's mom (Challen Cates) takes the boys to live in Hollywood. Once there, they have three months to cut a demo CD. In an unexpected surprise, Gustavo is given 3 days to make a song to wow the company owners so that they don't cut the music program totally. Getting started isn't easy. James is still the only one who wants to be a rock star and he tends to forget about the work that they need to do. Gustavo is a drill sergeant determined to whip them into shape when they just want to play. He even hires a bodyguard, Freight Train (Stephen Keys), to enforce his rules. Kelly is usually around to remind Gustavo that he really does like the boys and wants to keep them around. For them to stay, at the end of the three months they've got to convince the record company executive Arthur Griffin (Matt Riedy) to pick their demo CD to make a full album, and that's not going to be an easy task!

While they're not working, the guys live in Palm Woods with Mrs. Knight and Kendall's little sister Katie (Ciara Bravo). I love Katie. She's absolutely hilarious! There are also quite a lot of other interesting characters living at Palm Woods. It's a hotel where all new talent hoping to make it in Hollywood stay while they're trying to make their big break. On their first day there, the guys meet the Jennifers (Savannah Jayde, Denyse Tontz, and Kelli Gross). These girls can do it all and are always together. They'll only give you the time of day if you're famous though. They also meet Camille (Erin Sanders), an aspiring actress. Camille takes her art to an extreme and is always practicing acting. She's a good friend to the guys throughout the show. Later on, a new girl will move in, Jo (Katelyn Tarver). She's also going to become important to the guys. There are quite a few stars showing up from time to time as well, including Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls and Erik Estrada who plays Carlos's dad, which is an amazing fit for him.

There are a couple of special features available as well. "Big Time Break with Trivia Option" special feature is like a pop-up video of the day they all split up to do separate things. It was amusing to find out that Katie was originally an older sister in the unaired pilot. I think I like her better as a much younger sister that acts older. The second special feature is Photo Flipbook which has 5 photos in it, one of each of the guys and a group shot.

I am sure that Big Time Rush is a huge hit with its target demographic. But it's also enjoyable for adults as well. Just sit back and relax and enjoy the hilarious antics. These guys can sing, dance, and entertain you better than anyone I've seen in a while.
