Function: nVidia has long been known as the spearhead of the PC graphics movement. Producers are always putting out games that require more intricate hardware to take advantage of the graphical gloss of some of the higher-end games. The GeForce4 chipset by nVidia raises the bar once again, as it provides a graphics card technology that can make any game crisp, smooth and ultimately more enjoyable. VisionTek starts out with the more affordable GeForce4 MX420 all the way up to the extravagant GeForce4 Ti4600 . With the MX420 , you get an extremely affordable, high market card that carries more than its share of the workload when it comes to graphics acceleration. |
| Performance:This is where I really got impressed. I benchmark all of my video cards with a wonderful application called 3dMark2001 by MadOnion.com . After rigorously testing the MX420 , it posted a whopping benchmark score of 2719! That kind of score and performance is highly commendable for such an affordable card. I also ran three graphically intense games, with video options all set to 'highest,' and it ran like a charm. With things like a 256-bit 3D/2D graphics accelerator, and a 1 billion texel fill rate, you can bet your last penny that this video card is going to hum like a fine-tuned engine. Considering that the GeForce2 is hovering around 80 dollars, I didn't mind the 120 dollar price tag on the MX420 . It's the cheapest, best quality card you can get out there today. |

Drawbacks & Problems::While there are 'better' cards out there per say, I can't reiterate enough how much of a quality deal you get with the MX series of the GeForce4 chipset. It's not a strain on your pocketbook, while I guarantee it will improve your system's graphical performance, and make all your games look that much better. Be careful upon installation, as it is an AGP slot card, and AGP slots need to have their hardware pressed rather firmly so as to snap twice in the slot. I put the MX420 in some heavy testing environments (benchmarks, games, applications, etc.) and it came through fine in every one of the tests. I am thoroughly impressed with how well this card performed, and you can bet it has my recommendation. |
