8MB Memory Card
Score: 95%
Developer: Pelican

Function:

A few years ago, there was a wrestler whose tag line was 'No gimmicks needed'. The same goes for the 8MB Memory Card from Pelican. No flashy packaging, catchy names, or promises of greatness. However, behind this simplistic veneer lies one of the best memory cards I have used on my GameCube yet.

Performance:

The best thing about this card is the storage space. Instead of just going for the typical 4 Megs of memory (59 blocks), Pelican went all out and doubled the amount of memory on the card. That's right sports gamers, you can finally save your seasons and other games on one card!

The card itself has a very sturdy feel to it, unlike the official card, which feels like it could easily fall apart or break. It also fits snugly into the card slot on the system - completing what is a very nice package.

Features:
  • 120 Blocks (Double that of the original memory card)
  • Sturdy design
  • Protective travel case

Drawbacks & Problems::

As with most things in life, nothing is perfect - something which is true for this device. Unfortunately, the expanded memory comes with a price since the card is nearly two times as long as a normal card, so it doesn't fit in the designated slot in the game case.

Regardless, Pelican's card is an excellent choice. While I am not sure about price, I am sure it is much cheaper than buying two 4 MB cards. Given the size of the card, this one is a must for sports gamers. Some gamers may not need all this space, but why sit in coach when you can sit in first class for about the same price?
