Video Highway Xtreme
Score: 95%
Developer: Aims Labs
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

The Video Highway Xtreme is a PC card. It is an INTERNAL device, to be installed inside of your PC in a free PCI slot. Then, using cords included with the device, your PlayStation can be plugged into the Video In and Audio. This will allow you to play PlayStation games on your PC?s monitor and grab screenshots and video as needed.

The Video Highway Xtreme allows you to do many things with your PC. The Screen Capture feature and Video Capture may well be of interest to serious PlayStation gamers who would like to actually show something from a PlayStation game to a friend. (Especially handy if you have your own game related website.) However, if all you want to do is play your PlayStation on your PC monitor, you may wish to check out the JAM!! also by Aims Labs. And, if you only want to get screen shots from your PSX, the Xploder by X-Gear Games is a cheaper PlayStation-specific alternative.

Performance:

The software that comes with the Video Highway Xtreme has some very approachable interfaces for using the various features. The TVX interface (for TV viewing) looks like a remote control, and allows you to click a button to capture the screen. The RadioX interface looks like an automotive radio, complete with presets. The CaptureX interface has a more ?utilitarian? appearance, but is very easy to understand.

Features:
  • Allows PlayStation to be played on your PC?s monitor
  • Internal PCI card
  • Cords and software included
  • Grabs screenshots and video clips
  • TV, radio, video mail, video conferencing, and other applications included

Drawbacks & Problems::

Nothing really. First, this video card has average durability, being made of high quality parts and connectors. Second, as this device installs inside of your computer?s case, the device is reasonably protected from outside threats.
