Resident Evil 7 biohazard: End of Zoe starts off around the end of Resident Evil 7 where Ethan has to make a decision between his wife Mia or Zoe, daughter of the Baker family. Don’t worry about who you actually picked, in this DLC, you’ll have to leave Zoe behind on the dock. Zoe provided a lot of help to you, and somehow preserved her own life during the hellish events in the Baker household, so what follows in this DLC is pretty heartbreaking. Zoe gets frozen by the bioweapon slash creepy girl Eveline, presumably as she tries to escape through the woods.

Where do you start off in this story? You are Joe Baker, who is Jack’s brother and Zoe’s uncle. Joe lives in a shack on the water, close to the Baker mansion. He apparently subsists on crawfish, gator, and anything else he finds in the bayou. He’s a real Cajun’s Cajun. He’s kind of a good looking old dude too, you know, in a "Most Interesting Man in the World" kind of way.

Punching. The biggest spoiler for Resident Evil 7 biohazard: End of Zoe starts with two hands and ends with them in a monster’s face. I won’t lie, there is something brilliant and yet right on the edge of being completely wrong. It’s a kind of ridiculous that only Capcom can do. But you will be punching your way through parts of the mansion and derelict ship - literally.

The quality of this DLC is pretty darn good. It looks good, it’s got jumps, secrets, new enemies - it’s good. Resident Evil 7 biohazard: End of Zoe is, however, a bit different than the rest of the RE7 DLC. It might be just me, but End of Zoe just feels like dessert. You don’t have to think too hard about it, you just pick up a fork and have fun. Did I mention the punching? Seriously, there are no ammo types to manage, no weapons but the occasional sharpened stick. You can boost your attack power with little doll effigies, but you’d likely be able to make it through the DLC without those for help. The big payoff is if you punch really, really well, you are rewarded with an item that will give you stronger punch powers. Poetry.

The criticism I have for Resident Evil 7 biohazard: End of Zoe is the same one I have for Not a Hero. It’s just so short. We have a new character here, and we don’t really learn much about him. We learn enough for him to become interesting, but the main takeaway is that he loves his family and this guy is so far off the grid he wouldn’t know what to do with an electric bill. You are rewarded at the very end with some wrap up and dialogue between Zoe and Ethan, but it’s not much, and it won’t really change much about the way you see the characters. Still, End of Zoe is one of those turn your brain off and enjoy the ride sort of games. I enjoyed it more than Not a Hero, though I’d still recommend finishing that one before starting End of Zoe.
