Graphics & Sound: Nothing spectacular about graphics with Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire, but strategy games do not gain their fun factor through this aspect of gaming. The character designs are nice with a few more factions to fair with and great cinematic sequences add to the game. The score is well done and the sound is quite well structured. However, don’t expect any leaps and bounds from the original game, Alpha Centauri, for this is merely an add-on to a pre-existing game.
Gameplay: Alien Crossfire gives you an additional seven playable factions such as the Manifold Usurpers, the Cybernetic Consciousness, the Free Drones, the Cult of Planets, and many more; a few of which are actually already at odds with one another. You have more freedom to customize your military with five new weapon mods with four new types of armor. There are three new types of life-forms for you to discover as man continues its struggle to survive on an alien planet. There are new structures in which you can build such as spawning grounds to prevent riots and upgrade your buildings. And a nice Game Editor allows you to create your own factions and lets your sci-fi imagination run wild.
Difficulty: The incredibly strong development play is still present in Alien Crossfire that made the original such a good game. Point and click building and structure completion are still essential for you to survive, and with the expanded storyline’s added secret projects and new base facilities, you are able to reinvigorate a game that you may have decided to put away or may have gotten bored with.
Game Mechanics: If you really enjoyed the original Alpha Centuri, or are still in the midst of playing the game, Alpha Centuri: Alien Crossfire can be an extremely useful tool in adding to your gaming experience. So be confident in this add-on. It truly is worth getting in my opinion, purely for the new Faction Editor, and by gosh, just because it adds to one of the best darned development war sims that I have played.
