Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

Graphics & Sound:
I wasn't very impressed with the graphics. I thought that the use of color was horrendous. The lack of detail I found to be disturbing. The point of the game is to do tricks on a skateboard, but if you can't see what you're doing, it's kinda hard. On the good side, the sound and music wasn't that bad. Unfortunately, the good sound does not make up for the poor graphics. Granted, you can't do much graphically on a Game Boy, but I still feel there could have been more detail as well as a better color scheme.

Gameplay:
Although the game doesn't look too hot, it is fun to play. You choose from 10 different skaters, including Tony Hawk, and get to thrash. In one mode of play, you try to score as many points as you can on the half-pipe. This is the mode I found to be the most fun. It's kinda fun to just hit buttons like crazy to see what the little pixel man will do. You get to watch your little skateboarder man go back and forth, doing twist, grinds, and tricks. Another mode is the Race mode. This is pretty neat too. What you do is race a computer opponent (or another person via link cable). Of course, it's not just a straight shot race. There are plenty of things in the way to jump off, grind on, and just flat run into. In this mode, the amount of tricks are limited, but the competition is better. These two modes help to make this an addictive little skateboarding game. Gather as many points as you can to unlock hidden skaters and items.

Difficulty:
When playing the computer, the game can get a little difficult - however, just a little but. There are a few options, but for the most part, the difficulty is not that customizable. When playing a human opponent, it just comes down to how fast you can hit the buttons. The game is simple to learn. Overall, I found the difficulty to be pretty easy. Not too much challenge here.

Game Mechanics:
Slow, choppy, reckless. I spent the whole game just hitting buttons at reckless abandon, and won most of the time. The game runs slowly and is somewhat choppy. There really isn't much in the way of controls here. I found that the game was responsive to the key combos, but I just didn't ever get the hang of any of them. If you must play a skateboarding game, give this one a try.
