Graphics & Sound:

Yet another top view, side scrolling racing game for the GameBoy. With many different colors displayed, this one looks pretty good. And with the different types of vehicles to race, there is no confusion as to who is who. The terrain is great and the tracks are somewhat realistic looking. I enjoyed the graphics in this one. The sound wasn't too bad, but it could have been less monotone. All in all, I would have to say that although lacking in much detail, the graphics were good - maybe even great for a GameBoy.

Gameplay:

Well, if you like fast, smooth racing gameplay, then you're going to love this one. The game runs fast and smooth, sometimes too fast. One major downfall - you can't select the track you race on, only the terrain type. The types include desert, jungle, and snow. There are also four different vehicles to choose from: dump truck, race car, bulldozer, and a 4 by 4. You would think that the vehicles would be unbalanced, but they really all behave the same way - another downfall.

After completing a race, you are awarded points. The number of points that you get are directly proportional to your race performance. Using your points, you can upgrade your chosen vehicle.

This is a fun game. A no-brainer, but a fun one nonetheless. With fast, smooth gameplay, you can't help but like this one.

Difficulty:

I found the game to be very easy. Even with the realistic steering option turned on, the game was too easy. I do think, however, that the lack of difficulty is related to the fact that it is Tonka Raceway by Hasbro Interactive. I think it also adds to the fun factor in the game. It's just a good simple racing game.

Game Mechanics:

How difficult can it be? You have a brake, an accelerator, and a steering wheel. I did like the built-in rumble feature in the game. Not only could you see the action, but you could feel it as well. It was a nice way to bring realism to the game. You could feel the bumps in the road, as well as the bumps from the other cars. Not only did it look and feel good, but it also played very well. This game was fast and the side scrolling was smooth. I have no complaints with the game whatsoever, except for the lack of challenge.
