Graphics & Sound:
Remember back to the Tecmo Bowl days? Well, the graphics in Madden 2000 for the GBC resemble that, only smaller. I do have to say, I liked the use of soft colors, as opposed to the loud colors associated with other games. All things considered, it is a Game Boy game, and it does have 22 men on the field at once, so I don't expect the graphics to be outstanding. They are pretty much what you would expect. Not too good, not too bad. The images of John Madden look great; the gameplay graphics could be better. As for the sound, it's the same old GBC carousel type music and clanky type sounds. All in all, pretty much what is expected.

Gameplay:
Okay, it's football. Real football, not that arcade style stuff. Tons of plays, full rosters, substitutions, audible - it's all there. There are many modes of play. You can start right off the bat with a Quick Start. You also have to option to play an Exhibition game. There is also a Season mode. In order to continue your season, you are given a password that retains your progress. In addition, there is a Playoff mode and a Sudden Death mode. In the Sudden Death mode, the first one to score wins. This game plays just like any other football simulation on any other system, only smaller. You pick your play and execute it. Easy enough. It's really not that bad a game. You can even adjust the length of the quarters and the weather conditions.

Difficulty:
I found the game to be very hard at first. Until you get used to it, it's pretty difficult. Once you get the feel for it, it's not that bad. Having only two buttons to work with, your options are kinda limited, but over all, it's easy enough once you get used to it. It's really not that hard to learn - about half way to Disney World, you'll be a master at it.

Game Mechanics:
Well, the system has a D-Pad and two buttons. How difficult can it be? Actually, the question should be, how limited is it? The answer - very. You can't do all the fancy side stepping and stiff-arming. Also, it runs very slow and jerky. This is to be expected, but it can be an annoyance. If you want to play a good football game on the road, this is one you should try. If you want to sit at home and play, try something else.
