NBA Live 2000

Score: 95%
ESRB: Everyone
Publisher: EA Sports
Developer: NUFX
Media: Cartridge/1
Players: 1 - 4
Genre: Sports (Basketball)

Graphics & Sound:

The programmers at EA Sports have gone into great detail about the graphics for NBA Live 2000. The players’ faces and facial expressions make the graphics awesome. The jerseys have every little detail on them. They even have the little NBA symbol on the shoulder. The squeaking of the shoes, the sounds of the crowd, and the basketball bouncing on the glossy courts make the sound effects a strong point of Live 2000. The only flaw is they have the stupidest intro music. It makes you want to turn the volume off on your TV.

Gameplay:

The gameplay on Live 2000 is rather fast, as is every well-created basketball game. This game does not involve complicated button configurations, but I would suggest taking a look at controller configuration, if this is your first Live experience. You can perform moves like crossovers, behind the back, and several other jaw-dropping tricks. One helpful thing is direct passing. Direct passing is when you can pass the ball to any player on the court at any time, and not just the teammate standing next to you. Sweet!

Difficulty:

Live 2000 has four difficulty settings. On Rookie, you destroy every team you go up against. On Starter, winning still comes pretty easily. On All Star, you can play a challenging game, but still win most of your games. I wouldn’t recommend playing on Superstar until you can easily win and become bored with All Star. Also, when the rules are on, the game is more difficult to play.

Game Mechanics:

The Live basketball games have always reigned as the basketball game of the year, and once again, NBA Live 2000 lives up to that status. Live 2000 ranges from high flying dunks in the Arcade mode, playing 1 on 1 with the likes of Michael Jordan (woohoo!), to playing a full stat season. One cool thing about Live 2000 is the custom creations. You can create teams and players. The only bad thing about create a team is that you cannot play a season with your team. What’s up with that?
