Graphics & Sound:
Mission Impossible has fantastic animation and superb graphics; it's hard to imagine that graphics like this are coming from the Gameboy Color. Levels, although small in size, are very detailed and are convincing of the environments they portray. From war rooms, to deserts, to gardens, it's all here. Music is upbeat and fits the game very nicely - even the trademark Mission Impossible theme is found on the title screen, nice. Sound effects are typical; various gun sounds and grunts are all found in the game.

Gameplay:
You play Ethan Hunt, Impossible Mission Force field agent. You set out on five missions that span ten levels of action where you'll have to utilize stealth to sneak into heavily guarded fortresses, recover objects, and utilize an arsenal of gadgets. You do whatever it takes to complete the mission. Your character can run, walk, jump and crawl through the game's situations, as well as wield a whole slew of weapons from silenced pistols to grenades. The game also has something called the Agent Organizer. The Agent Organizer features a number of extra features that are very innovative and neat. You can store addresses/phone numbers in the notebook, send messages to other people with the IM game and you can even program your Gameboy Color to act as a remote control which can control TV's, VCR's, satellite receivers and radios. And if that wasn't enough, there's a built in calculator.

Difficulty:
Game difficulty is definitely not the area where this game shines. I found myself incredibly frustrated with this game as the levels are linear. Sure, you basically run to one place, kill a couple of people and complete the mission, or at least that's the way things are supposed to work. The game gives you instructions to solve a mission, but sometimes you are walking around a stage for a long while before you finally figure out what to do with an object. It's just overall very flawed, and could have been greatly improved. You also die way to easily, which leads to playing levels a great number of times and that gets boring quick.

Game Mechanics:
Controls for the most part are very simple and responsive. The D pad moves, the Select button is to crawl, A acts as the run and jump button, and B fires gun or uses your current item. A stealth meter, health, equipment icon, and number of lives remaining are all displayed very nicely at the bottom of the screen, so you know what is going on at all times. Overall, Mission Impossible is a game that had the potential of becoming a must own title, but the flawed gameplay and difficulty really held it back. It's still a title you should consider to add to your Gameboy Color collection, if only to experience the innovative features found in the Agent Organizer.
