Strike Fighters: Project 1: Strike Fighters Preview |
Strike Fighters is a flight sim set in a fictitious 1960's decade. Though the planes and technology remain mostly the same, the campaigns you fly are not. A dynamic campaign system lets you fly for either the US Air Force, or you can go solo and play the mercenary campaign. In the latter, you fly missions for money, which must eventually be spent to fix up and rearm your aircraft. This mercenary option is new to the genre, and should add more depth to it in the long run.

Leading the design team is Tsuyoshi Kawahito, a veteran of flight sim design who helped create some of the great Jane's games. His continued excellence is apparent even in this early version with its stunning graphics. Strike Fighters boasts an all new graphics engine powered by DirectX 8.1, which is optimized for rendering scenes with high poly counts in full 32-bit color. From what we've seen here, we can only imagine what the final product will look like.

The designers will try to keep the game alive longer by making Strike Fighters fully mod-able. New planes and a Vietnam Campaign are already in the works for an add on, and there should be even more fan mods after the game is released. An ambitious title, Strike Fighters could help beef up the slightly weak line of flight sims we've seen lately.
