ORB: ORB Preview |

ORB is an acronym for Offworld Resource Base. The history was sketchy at best, but let it be safe to assume that the setting is either in some distant alien galaxy, or sometime in the remote future where our technology has advanced to the point of interstellar travel.

The overall look and feel is more along the lines of games like Homeworld, but in ORB the emphasis is placed more on individual ship management and combat than resource gathering and base building. Controlling fully rotational spacecraft in empty space is done through the simple interface used here. Through the use of the 3D world and a 2D overhead map, movement and combat are easily mastered skills.

While many games have tried to harness the power of space combat on a managerial level, most have let that power slip through their fingers. From what we've seen here, ORB looks like it will maintain a tight grip on that valuable power, and possibly even wield it to great ends. If the finished product is anything like this early model, the developers probably have a best seller on their hands.
