Activision Introduces Swarm

Company: Activision
Product: Skylanders: Giants

Activision and Toys for Bob have recently announced a fourth large Skylanders figure for the upcoming Giants game.

Along with a few new normal-sized characters and some re-releases of previous heroes, Skylanders: Giants will have a new character for each element that is twice the size of the normal characters. Activision has already made announcements for the Life type Tree Rex, the Tech type Bouncer and Earth type Crusher. This newest release is for an Air type named Swarm.

Swarm looks like a large bee. According to his biography, he was once a prince from a proud race of mysterious insect warriors that had built their entire civilization inside a giant honeycombed pyramid. Growing up as one of the 9,000 members of the royal family, he was never permitted to leave the hive. But unlike his brethren, there was a magical quality to Swarm that caused him to grow much larger than the rest of his kind. No longer able to fit amongst the rest of his colony, the young prince broke the long-standing tradition and stepped out into the open world - where his size and strength would be put to good use in the legendary battle between the Giants and the Arkeyans.

Based on the gameplay we’ve seen, Swarm is able to fly and has not only a melee-style attack by swinging his massive fists, but he can also shoot stingers out of his arms. The gameplay video also shows the Giant performing several moves that the larger Skylanders can pull off. This includes pushing piles of blocks as well as uprooting massive boulders to throw at enemies.

You can expect to see Swarm and the rest of the Giants this October. Well, I guess to be a bit more truthful, the game will be released in October. Activision has yet to announce the release schedule of the actual figures, and based on how well they teased their fan base with the last 32 toys, I wouldn’t expect to see all of the new toys to hit the shelves at once.

Skylanders: Giants is for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo DS and the 3DS.
