As I said in Season Three's review, it was a little bit darker season than the first two were. At the end of the season, we thought everything might work out, though. Christina (Sandra Oh) and Burke (Isaiah Washington) made it to the wedding day. Christina had a minor freak out before walking down the aisle. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) calmed her down, however, and just as they were about to start, Burke walks out, tells her that he can't take it anymore and he's leaving her. This might seem a little bit out of character for Burke, but if you were paying attention to the actors in real life, you'll remember that there was some trouble between Isaiah Washington and the actor who plays George (T.R. Knight). We all guessed that one of them was going to leave the show, but since George failed his exams and isn't going to be a resident next year, it was a toss up as to who it would be. When Burke walked out of the chapel, he walked out of the show as well. Meredith had to go into the chapel to tell everyone there wasn't going to be a wedding. She says "It's over. It's SO over," and looks at Derek (Patrick Dempsey), which of course makes us all question whether or not she's just talking about Christina and Burke or about she and Derek as well. I'm going to leave it up to you to guess who Burke's replacement as head of cardio is.
Grey's Anatomy: Season Four starts off a few weeks after Season Three ended. Christina and Meredith went on the honeymoon together, because they didn't want to waste the vacation in Hawaii. When they get back, things aren't quite the same. They're all now residents, with the exception of George. He decided that instead of letting it all go to waste, he would repeat his intern year, which, of course, means that he is now intern to one of his friends. The whole gang gets their own set of interns, but they really don't know quite what to do with them. Other than Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), none of the interns really stand out as becoming permanent characters. Lexie, of course, is going to be different and difficult, because she's Meredith's half sister, not that they've ever met each other. You can foresee that Meredith is going to have to work on her relationship skills quite a lot this year.
The one other character that is leaving the show is Addison Montgomery. She got her own series called Private Practice, which is a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy. Just because she's moved to California doesn't mean she won't be back to guest star every now and then, though.
The whole George-Callie (Sara Ramirez)-Izzie (Katherine Heigl) situation is concluded in Season Four also. I'm definitely not going to spoil that one for you, though. There are a lot of surprises dealing with those three throughout the season. Also I know you haven't forgotten Alex (Justin Chambers)'s ex-flame Rebecca (Elizabeth Reaser), or Eva as you may remember her. We still haven't seen the last of her. As expected, McSteamy (Eric Dane) is definitely still around hitting on everything that walks. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is also going to have her own issues this season. Life just isn't going exactly as she wants and for once, she has little control over it.
There's so much that I have left out that I just don't have room to go into here. The DVD comes packed with plenty of special features too, including extended scenes, unaired scenes, and outtakes. You should definitely go pick up Grey's Anatomy Season Four today and watch it all. You'll get swept up in the drama in no time!
