Van Wilder, played by Ryan Reynolds (Blade: Trinity, Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place), has been attending Coolidge College for seven years now. In his tenure at the school, he has developed a reputation for throwing the best parties around. So much of a reputation, in fact, he is considered a legend at the school. Wilder's seventh year starts off normally, that is, until his father realizes that the party-animal is still sucking tuition out of him, $39,000 at a time. Wilder's life is thrown for a loop when his dad cuts him off and tells him that if he wants to continue going to the school he loves so much, he's going to have to pay his own way.
And to make matters worse, the college paper has just assigned one of their most ruthless and best reporters the task of getting an interview out of the elusive legend. Now Gwen Pearson (Tara Reid of My Boss's Daughter and the first two American Pie movies) is torn between the story she needs to get, her preppy pre-med boyfriend and the fun-loving, carefree guy she's starting to fall for.
In Van Wilder, the two characters (and their opposing personalities) come together time after time. As Van's relaxed demeanor starts to wear down Gwen's overly-serious routine, the fem-journalist forces Wilder to look at his life and figure out why he's keeping himself in college.
The movie's soundtrack is also a nice blend of alternative bands including American Hi-Fi, Sum 41 and Sugarcult's "Stuck In America". National Lampoon's Van Wilder is a great comedy who's theme seems to be "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive."
