Like I already said, Dogtown and Z-Boys is a documentary. A lot of this movie is old raw footage of the group skateboarding back in the 70's. Their skating moves mimic surfing, meaning a lot of the tricks are low to the ground, and there are no aerials. Don't let this discourage you. I found it interesting to see how the Z-Boys came up with this style of skating. The production of this video is the reason it's an award-winning film. Each member of the group tells their own story of how things were, and are intertwined perfectly into one final product. In the end, you'll have a better understanding of how skateboarding grew into one of the biggest extreme sports today.
While I loved the movie, there wasn't much for extra features that would make me want to buy Dogtown and Z-Boys. The best feature is the Extended "Raw" Footage, that just shows more of the Z-Boys skating. There is also commentary provided by director and former member and skating champion Stacy Peralta. After that, there isn't much else. So because of this, my recommendation is for you to definitely go out and rent Dogtown and Z-Boys before buying it.
