Performed before live audiences, The Odd Couple: The Fourth Season boasts of such notables as ballet superstar Edward Villella in "Last Tango in Newark" where Felix takes advantage of substituting for the come-lately star as teacher and lead in the children's presentation of Swan Lake. Football star Alex Karas goes beserk in a jealous rage when he finds out his wife is seeing another man ... could it possibly be lonely Felix in "That Was No Lady"? Announcer Dick Clark hosts a radio quiz where Oscar wins a new car and then has to deal with Felix's compulsive controlling dictates in "The New Car." Insulting-as-ever Bobby Riggs takes center stage when he challenges womanhood with man's superiority in all things! Making a guest appearance is contender Billie Jean King in "The Pig Who Came to Dinner." You'll see Victor Buono as a psychic in "The Exorcist" where Felix engages him to exorcise a ghost inhabiting his window air conditioner. Opera singer Marilyn Horne as a love-shy admirer of Oscar consents to perform in Felix's opera club's rendition of "Carmen"... but only if Oscar performs in "Vocal Girl Makes Good." Felix becomes melancholy and departs for brighter fields in "Shuffling Off to Buffalo" where he gets a job in his brother's (William Redfield) bubblegum factory designing opera trading cards for bubblegum. Monty Hall returns for another appearance when he spotlights Oscar's career on his TV show only to be upstaged for the enthusiastic Felix and his college band in "A Different Drummer." And finally Hugh Hefner is sympathetic as young Playboy photographer, Felix, tries desperately to shield Gloria's centerfold photo from Hugh and the rest of the world.
The Odd Couple: The Fourth Season is hysterical as Oscar and Felix perpetually play off each other's idiosyncrasies and bring delightful family fun to audiences everywhere. The characters stay true to the Oscar and Felix first introduced in Neil Simon's initial hit with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Felix's singing and dancing were quite enjoyable and Oscar and Somers (Klugman's wife in real life) were endearing together. I have certainly enjoyed The Fourth Season and look forward to the next season in the future.
