The second season of The Big Gay Sketch Show introduces us to a slightly different cast. This season also introduces Rosie O'Donnell to the show, where she makes little quips about the sketches over popcorn. Probably the biggest difference in this season from the one before it is the overall raunchiness of it. More often, the show is skipping the allusions and, for lack of a better term, going straight to the point. Another difference here are the short behind-the-scenes clips that follow many sketches and show the cast goofing off in and out of character.

Grandma Bell is a character that just about sums up the best and worst of this season. She's an outspoken woman who's perhaps a little too proud of her sexuality. She leaves no detail of her life out and usually ends up scaring some other character in the skit with her lack of any shame. The sketches with the shipping clerk Naldo are probably just as bad. He makes shipping sexy. He handles packages. Do I really want to describe this for you? Customers line up to see him "make love" to packages, but Naldo naively thinks that people just like mailing things - a lot. It's a bit like the current SNL stuff in that it just doesn't know when to quit, but it may be so over the top that it will force you to laugh if you're not looking away from the screen and sighing. Actually that's a pretty unfair comparison, but if you like these kinds of visual gags, you'll probably be in love with this season.

Even though some sketches may be going down the gutter, some seem to be getting a little better and more complex. Well alright, Erica Ash in her Chicago-style fitness class may not be getting nicer, but it's so wrong on so many levels that I found it one of the funnier ones. The characters Erica comes up with generally seem to be their own personalities, as bad as they are. One sketch that was a long time in coming was about Ms. J from Tyra Bank's America's Next Top Model. If Tyra found her way to being mocked on the show, it seems only natural that Ms. J would be next. I wish there was more substance to the sketch, as Colman Domingo is just spot-on in this role. Stephen Guarino also brings back the bad customer service in his recurring sketch about a customer service "professional" who loves to do anything but his job and happens to own a large wardrobe of assorted hot pants. Fitzwilliam taking a trip to Hogwartz is also a really funny sketch for this recurring character.

Like the last season, there are tons of different sketches, so there's bound to be something in this season you like. Once again, there is a generous amount of bonus content with lots of goofing off. There's a mini-parody of the show called "The Big Straight Sketch Show," which is a pretty funny half hour special. The bonus sketches seem to be too bad even for this season, and you get the feeling it was a good idea to leave them out. Overall, this DVD set is much like the first season, but a with a bit more raw and raunchy content. Here's hoping they can keep the creativity up for a new season, because there is a lot of promise for this show.
