Creature Comforts America is a new series that follows the style of a British show called Creature Comforts. In these shows, claymation animals are interviewed in various funny and often ironic situations.
The Complete First Season covers six episodes and interviews everyone from a pair of police dogs, some roaches in NYC, a mother/daughter team of pigs, a mule and horse and who knows how many other animals. Some of the more interesting interviews involve a discussion about self-image with the pigs or the gorilla in the zoo talking about art.
The first disc covers all of the episodes of the show, while the second disc contains the special features. These features include video of people acting out the scenes to make it easier to animate the models, deleted scenes and character comps (many of the interviews from the main characters strung together in one long reel).
The series is created by Aardman Studios, the creators of such classics as Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, and Flushed Away. The studio is known for its stop-action work and very unique style. This series was originally inspired by a series of interviews with zoo exhibits discussing the nature of their captivity. Later the Aardman group gained notoriety here in the States for the classic "Chevron with Techron" commercials involving talking cars. All of these previous endeavors are very present in Creature Comforts America.
Creature Comforts America is a great follow-up series to the hit British show, and fans of the studio should immediately recognize the unique style of this series and pick up this DVD without hesitation. If you are on the fence, and aren't really familiar with the creators, then you might still want to check out this show, even if it might not be quite as funny to non-Aardman fans.
