Dexter: The Sixth Season

Dexter: The Sixth Season really takes the viewer on a journey and a lot happens. With Lumen (Julia Stiles) out of the picture at the end of last season, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) finds himself alone again, but he'll have plenty to keep him busy. Before long, a new threat will emerge, the Doomsday Killers, who create gruesome tableaus representing scriptures from the Book of Revelations. Travis Marshall (Colin Hanks) and his mentor, Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos), are obsessed with the end of the world and are hell-bent on having the people of Miami repent, no matter what bloody end is required. Dexter will have a tough time catching these crafty killers and although Dex encounters some other folks who find their way to his table, "DDK" takes up the bulk of the season. Meanwhile, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) has some earth-shattering changes in her life. First, as Quinn (Desmond Harrington) is trying to propose, a shootout in a bar makes Deb a an unwilling hero, which leads to her promotion to Lieutenant, much to the newly-crowned Captain Maria LaGuerta’s (Lauren Valez) chagrin. Naturally, this hurts Batista (David Zayas), as LaGuerta had assured him of the position. Deb's hands are more than full with the Doomsday Killers as her first big case as Lieutenant.

Meanwhile at the station, Dexter meets Brother Sam (Mos Def), who was originally a candidate for his table, but now seems to be completely reformed. He makes Dexter see things in a new light and becomes a resource for Dexter's religious questions during his pursuit of Doomsday. Masuka (C.S. Lee) takes on an intern this season and while the hot chick intern, Ryan, didn't work out quite as well as he had hoped, the nerdy guy seems to be great. Intern Lewis Green starts dating Batista’s little sister, Jamie, who also happens to be Dexter's nanny. While the video game designer turned forensic intern seems bright and unassuming, the serial killer game he is working on might hold a darker secret. When he becomes obsessed with Dexter, this could set things up for some very interesting happenings next season.

Meanwhile, Travis teams up with two fanatical followers from Dr. Gellar's blog, Steven and his wife, Beth (Jordana Spiro, My Boys). As Dexter relentlessly pursues Travis, he is trying to stage his final surprise for Miami. As Batista is following up leads, he almost loses his life in the process, since Quinn has been AWOL and irresponsible since his breakup with Deb. While trying to track down DDK, Debra gets caught up in political intrigue when a seemingly obvious overdose of a call girl ends up being something much more, and Debra figures something out she'd prefer she hadn't. The season finale ends in quite a shocker and as a result, I have no idea where this next season will take us.

Special features include a picture gallery, biographies on all the major characters from the show/season, short interviews with many cast members, plus the first two seasons of a new Showtime series, House of Lies. If you go online, you can also access additional extras like the first two episodes of Californication: Season 5 and the Borgias: Season 2. The interviews are fun and it's always nice to get teasers for new shows, but I do wish there was more in the way of featurettes.

Dexter never fails to please and this season is no different. It's jam-packed with craziness and while I will admit it's not my favorite season, I did really enjoy it. The season premiere of Season 7 is coming soon, so if you missed Dexter: The Sixth Season when it first aired, now is the time to catch up and be ready!
