Bill is played by William Bendix, once a batboy for the New York Yankees. The movie is everything you'd expect the 1950's to deliver: silly physical gags with musical punchlines, obedient women, and even I Love Lucy's William Frawley. All-in-all, a fun film for the baseball lover with an appreciation for classic-style comedy.
The second half of the disc is occupied by Safe at Home. This story follows young Hutch Lawton, a typical good-natured "golly gee-willackers" 1950's kid, who, just like all the other kids, just wants to be a swell guy. So, naturally he lies to all his buddies that he knows Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Doesn't everyone? After he promises his buddies autographed pictures, he hitches off to spring training camp in hopes of finding the baseball legends.
Ironically also featuring William Frawley, Safe at Home is aimed more towards kids. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris both show up as themselves, as well. Its not likely you'll find a kid these days who'll appreciate a black and white film, so this one's just for baseball lovers.
