The BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo anime series is a show I had only heard about, but before now, had not had the opportunity to watch. That is, until I found out that my 10 year-old little brother really likes this show and BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo Vol. 1: Bo-nafide Protector came up for review.

From the intro of the first episode all the way through the end of the last one in this volume (Episode 4, "Bababa-ba Ba-baba! The Honorable King Nose Hair "), it is obvious that this show is geared towards pre-teen viewers with focus problems. The show changes subjects and goes off on tangents so frequently, that pretty much any adult would be hard pressed to find an overall arching storyline, well except for the basic setup of BoBoBo-Bo's mission to stop the evil Lord Baldy-Bald from shaving everyone's head.

That isn't a bad thing though. Like I said, the target audience is known for having wandering minds, and from what I can tell by watching this show with my brother, it keeps their interest and keeps them laughing from beginning to end.

BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo Vol. 1: Bo-nafide Protector covers the first four episodes of the series. The premise is that BoBoBo-Bo has an unusual power, he can hear people's hair and know when it is in danger. This ability, along with his Snot-For-You martial arts training, allows him to defy Baldy-Bald's EMBB (Everybody Must Be Bald) edict. The show starts off with a young woman named simply Beauty, being harassed by Baldy-Bald's Hair Hunters when our golden-afro'ed hero saves the day and the two go off on various crazy (and oh so random) adventures.

The two soon run into an odd character known as Don Patch and after a "Wigging Out" match, the new guy joins their party. The adventure continues with Don Patch's graduation from school (a 10 minute tangent out of left field), a half duck/half underwear character and a lot of build up for a character named King Nose Hair who lasts like two or three minutes in the show.

If you are looking for a crazy new anime that you don't really have to pay a whole lot of attention to, or something your child will roll on the floor laughing over for hours, then the BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo series might be just what your looking for. If you haven't caught the show on TV and want to give it a taste, this DVD seems to be a good sample of what the show is all about.
