The Super Hero Squad Show: Quest for the Infinity Sword! Volume 2 is the next batch of episodes featuring the kid-friendly versions of Marvel's super heroes as they race against Dr. Doom's minions to find the Infinity Fractals.

Like before, these episodes focus on the core characters of Iron Man, Hulk, Falcon, Silver Surfer, Thor, Wolverine, Reptil and Ms. Marvel, as well as the main bad guys like Dr. Doom, Abomination and M.O.D.O.K., but each episode also has their own guest characters. These are characters like Nick Fury, Ant-Man, Egghead, the Fantastic Four and The Skrulls, as well as Black Widow and Mystique. The show also packs quite a few guest characters in the episode "Night of the Sanctorum!" where the Squaddies find themselves without a home for the night and they keep trying to find a place to stay. Everyone from The Punisher to Dr. Strange is approached, but the rambunctious nature of this super hero team keeps them from staying a full night anywhere.

In "The Forest Green!," Dr. Doom calls for Egghead to help his evil team retrieve a Fractal that the Squaddies were able to capture. Egghead Abomination and M.O.D.O.K. use Egghead's shrinking technology to sneak onto the hover-carrier and retrieve the fragment. When the Squaddies realize that Pym particles (what allows people to shrink, you see) are present in the Fractal's theft, they call the man who discovered them, Ant-Man (AKA Hank Pym) and from there, the show turns into a "Honey I Shrunk the Heroes" episode as the smaller characters deal with the perils of lakes of salsa, and the need for full-sized Reptil, Ms. Marvel and Hulk to make some lunch.

My favorite episode in this collection is "O, Captain, My Captain!," and not just because of the Walt Whitman reference. Here, Wolverine gets fed up with the team and decides to go on his own. While out-and-about, he is approached by Captain America to join his Captain Team. Wolverine's costume pallet-swaps to something more Canadian, a Maple leaf is put on his chest and he takes on the name Captain Canada. He then meets the other members of America's team, Captain Britain (a well-established Marvel character), and Captains Australia, Brazil and Liechtenstein (none of which I recall from any other Marvel license). The comedy in this episode stems from Wolverine's lone-wolf nature colliding with the overly-planned and calculated Captains' tactics.

In "If This Be My Thanos!," Iron Man, Hulk and Falcon team up with the Fantastic Four to stop a Skrull invasion lead by Super-Skrull. Meanwhile, Dr. Doom and Thanos are working together to break into the Baxter Building to get an Infinity Gem for Thanos.

The Super Hero Squad Show: Quest for the Infinity Sword! Volume 2's last episode introduces the Black Widow, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was prominently introduced to the non-Marvel following population in the Iron Man 2 film. What the Squaddies don't realize is that she is actually Mystique in disguise sent to the hover-carrier to discover any secrets she can. What she doesn't count on is Black Widow's beauty causing none of the guys wanting to talk shop around her, and Mystique has to go around impersonating the various Super Hero Squad members to get some real information.

Volume 2 has a few good special features. Besides character bios on the main heroes of the show, there is also an interview with Tom Kenny. Kenny voices Iron Man, M.O.D.O.K., Captain America and a few other voices in the show. Kenny himself is an experienced voice actor whose most memorable role is SpongeBob SquarePants.

Overall, this collection of episodes feel pretty much the same as Volume 1's. While there is a little less exposition, which was pretty much all in "And Lo... A Pilot Shall Come!," a lot of the characters get episodes that focus on them, and we get a wider variety of guest characters. If you found yourself enjoying the first volume, then you can expect more of the same with Volume 2. Those who find the show too kiddie, which is what it is designed to be, might want to steer away from this DVD.
