While the back of the
8GB Einstein Mimobot USB Flash Drive is fairly flat, the front contours outward, making it too thick to fit in between two other USB ports if you have a closely stacked USB orientation. Mind you, he should fit on the outside port of a stack, with the clearance normally provided between the ports and the edge of a PC case. Then again, this is going to be an issue more often found in the back of a PC case, rather than the front - and why would you put a memory stick as fashionable as the
Einstein Mimobot in the back of your PC? Still, if you have very few open USB ports or other devices that are too thick to fit in between other USB ports, this could be an issue, so verify that you have the appropriate available USB ports before purchasing this cute little guy.
The protective cover is nicely protective, but there is no place to put the protective cover when you take it off. I wish there was some way to attach the cover to the opposite side of the stick when it's being used. As it is, the cover is a strange, rounded shape which makes it awkward to put it somewhere when it's not on the stick. Also, some way to attach it to a keychain would be nice; a lot of thumb drives offer this and, as a result, I have a couple hanging off my keychain, currently. That could have been a way to keep the protective cover from getting lost, to boot. Big deal? Not extremely, but worth mentioning; it would be a shame for the protective cover to roll off someone's desk and accidentally get crushed underfoot.
The files that are included on the 8GB Einstein Mimobot USB Flash Drive are nice, but do realize that they are taking up part of that 8GB of space. If you need to use the entire 8GB of space, you'll want to copy these files off somewhere so you can get them later before wiping the stick so you can use the whole 8GB.
While I was putting ol' Einstein through his paces, I thought I'd try using him to improve my gaming rig's performance by setting him as a ReadyBoost device. Instead of allowing me to use 8GB for ReadyBoost, I was only allowed to use 4GB and, while I'm not sure why exactly, I found the same thing with other 8GB flash drives. When I tested the read and write speeds, I found that they were quite comfortably over the minimum threshold to be used for ReadyBoost. Further, my system's stability improved, even under heavy load, so if you haven't tried ReadyBoost before, you might want to put Einstein's brain to work for you and give it a shot.
Mimobots, in general, are cute as the dickens, and the 8GB Einstein Mimobot USB Flash Drive is no exception. This would be the perfect stocking stuffer for an Einstein fan and a great addition to any Mimobot collector's hoard.
