Function: There comes a time in every gamer's life when they are forced to take that dreaded weekend trip to Grandma's or to some secluded cabin in the woods for a weekend with the family. While having 'family fun' out at the lake or listening to Grandma talk about the good ole' days, the only thing on your mind is that you would rather be harvesting Pikmin or kicking some tail in Smash Brothers. But alas, you were forced to leave your GameCube at home because the cabin doesn't have a TV and Grandma has to watch her stories, Matlock, and the People's Court. Fear not gamers, your problems have been solved.
Performance: The Mobile Monitor 5.4 is the easy, snap-on solution to all your travel gaming needs. Included with the monitor is a power-plug adapter, cigarette lighter adapter (for those long car trips), and plug adapter. Installation and removal of the device is easy - just snap it on and pull it off. The device is even designed to allow you to switch games without having to remove the screen. The screen is better suited for brighter color games than darker ones. When testing the monitor with Wave Race and Smash Brothers, the picture was clear and easy to see. There were a few problems with motion becoming blurry - but it's not too detracting from the image. This did make games like Pikmin and Rogue Leader hard to play in some areas (such as the Death Star Trench and Forest Navel), but they were still playable. I was surprised at the quality of sound produced by the screen's speakers. Obviously it doesn't compare to a Dolby Surround Sound receiver, but it's still a good, stereo sound. In addition to working as a GameCube monitor, an included adapter can be plugged into the device allowing it to become a portable screen for your PS2, Xbox, or DVD player.

Drawbacks & Problems:: As mentioned before, the monitor has problems producing dark colors. This made it hard to play Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil (and in some respects Luigi's Mansion). Depending on the game, you can create somewhat of a remedy for this problem by adjusting the brightness on both the monitor and in the game options - but as a matter of personal preference I chose not to play them on the screen. Overall the Mobile Monitor is a good device - but given its hefty price, this is only for gamers who travel a lot and not something for everyone. But for gamers willing to invest in the screen, I completely recommend it.
