Laser Clean
Score: 100%
Developer: Blaze
Device Type: Miscellaneous

Function:

In a PlayStation system, the game disc never touches the lens (except possibly by accident during putting it in or taking it out of the system -- be careful). The point is, under ideal conditions, nothing should EVER touch the lens of your PlayStation system...

In an ?ideal? world, there would be no dust. In the real world, however, your game discs get dirty. Your CDs get dirty. Your DVDs get dirty... and then you RENT games and DVDs? (After that kid down the street that has gone through four PlayStations already because he doesn?t know how to take care of one?!) The point is you put these discs in your PlayStation, you set them spinning at high speeds, and then you take them out when you?re done. Some of that dust comes off and lands on your optics. Over time, you develop a nice little film of dust and grime on your lens -- then (surprise!!!) your PlayStation won?t play some of your games... or it won?t play sometimes... or it will skip or hang up at some point. What can you do? Clean your lens... but you have to be careful about how you do it.

Performance:

Blaze?s Laser Clean is a pretty cool little product. It looks like a normal PlayStation disc (black surface), but with two little brushes mounted on it. Operation is simple -- just put it in your system, boot it up, and watch the progress. The disc has PlayStation formatted software that automatically starts the cleaning process. And? It works. I used it on one of my PS2s, and was amazed to see that it had actually gotten fairly dusty in there already! I used it on an old PlayStation unit and found that it actually allowed me to play some games that had stopped working in the machine. There are two important elements to whether a game will play. One is the disc itself, and the second is your PlayStation system. The Blaze Laser Cleaner will take care of one of them for you... with ease.

Features:
  • Removes dust and grime from lens
  • Compatible with PlayStation, PSOne, and PS2
  • Reduces likelihood of disc skipping
  • Built-in PlayStation compatible cleaning software
  • Automatic cleaning -- hands-free operation
  • Improves data and sound transfer
  • May allow for playing of games that are in poor condition

Drawbacks & Problems::

It?s a shame it?s only for PlayStation compatible systems, but it does what it does quickly and easily. I haven?t experienced any problems with the Laser Clean unit, but I would not advise overuse, as it does come in contact with the lens. I would highly recommend using the Laser Clean in conjunction with cleaning any CDs or DVDs before putting them in your system. This should ensure a long, healthy life for your optics.
