System Stand
Score: 98%
Developer: Mad Catz
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

The Mad Catz System Stand fits the PlayStation 2 snugly, providing a nice grip. The stand provides the PS2 with a much sturdier stance, expanding the PS2?s footprint from the original 3? wide to 5.75? wide. At nearly double the original width, it would take a pretty good knock to topple the PS2.

Performance:

The Mad Catz System Stand has four rubber pads inside on the sides where the stand comes in contact with the sides of the PlayStation 2. Additionally, there are four recesses in the ?floor? of the stand. These recesses are molded to fit the locations of the rubber feet built into the PS2. Together, these features provide for a nice fit and good stability, while still being easy to remove.

The parts of the Mad Catz System Stand that are visible when in use are a royal blue color and take design cues from the ?fins? design element of the PS2 -- abstractly, not literally. The ?fins? are different from those of the PlayStation2 not only in color, but in width and in their declining height (45 degree angle). However, this does not detract from the stand?s ability to attractively compliment the PS2. The blue color highlights the blue accents of the PS2 and creates a dynamic and striking appearance for what will undoubtedly be the conversation piece of your entertainment room: the PS2.

Features:
  • 5.75? footprint width
  • Complementary design
  • Rubber side cushions for improved grip
  • Recesses for PS2?s rubber feet
  • Built-in rubber feet

Drawbacks & Problems::

No drawbacks, really... There?s not a lot required of a vertical stand. The general idea is to hold the PS2 upright and reduce the chance of the PS2 falling over. The Mad Catz System Stand does an excellent job of meeting these two requirements, while complementing the design of the PS2. This product is designed to do a single thing, and it does it well.
