Christmas in turn-of-the-century Toronto is an extraordinary time of the year. Sparkling presents under the lighted Christmas tree await anxious children, and parents wonder what Santa might leave for them this year. Acorn's Murdoch Mysteries: A Merry Murdoch Christmas is a holiday crime mystery that has the legendary evil spirit of Krampus stealing Christmas joy from Toronto's sick and needy children and causing Station No. 4 of the Toronto Constabulary to be on full guard to catch the murderer of the city's most notable benefactor before that glorious Christmas day so that the spirit of Christmas is preserved.

Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) leads the murder and theft investigation, while Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig, Coronation Street) remembers a time in his youth when evil poked its head up through his bedroom window, scarring his memory for years. The Inspector is determined to find the children's presents and put the culprit in jail so much so that as a precautionary measure, he locks up Father Christmas (Ed Asner, Elf), and proclaims that there will be no Christmas holidays until the murderer is apprehended!

Meanwhile Murdoch has special plans for Christmas with his beautiful wife, Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy, Durham County), while Constable George Crabtree (Jonnie Harris, Still Standing) is left alone this Christmas and begs an invitation from the Murdoch's for the holiday. Constable Henry Higgins (Lachlan Murdoch) will miss being with his girlfriend, and Constable Jackson (Kristian Bruun, Orphan Black) won't be able to spend Christmas with his mother. When a second murder is discovered, everyone agrees that this killer must be found to reunite these hard-working officers with their families and preserve the spirit of Christmas throughout Toronto.

Murdoch Mysteries: A Merry Murdoch Christmas has a bonus special of six minutes entitled Making Murdoch which adds greater understanding to your viewing experience. This Christmas episode keeps your spirits heightened as the Constabulary uncovers every secret path, confidence and clue to catch the Krampus that has cast a solemn cloud over Christmas. This special episode is racked with mystery, intrigue, and emotions and it will keep you spellbound with excitement. The characters are charming as usual. Brenden Coyle (Downton Abbey) plays the accountant Rankin and Peyton Kennedy plays silent screen actress Mary Pickford, who is determined to keep the holidays unscathed. There are more surprises, and a happy ending that enlightens the citizens of Toronto. And, of course, our Detective Murdoch invents lights for the Christmas tree and a medical device to save lives. Aside from a few parental concerns, this is a delightful Christmas story to close out the year.
