The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete Second Season is wholesome family entertainment that has certainly stood the test of time. The series is based on the 1963 movie of the same name starring Glenn Ford, and then again in 1969, the show debuted on television to span three seasons. The show centers around Tom Corbett (Bill Bixby, The Incredible Hulk), a good-looking, thirty-something widower raising an energetic young son, Eddie (Brandon Cruz, Bad News Bears), who is always intent on searching for that perfect female to fit the role of "mother" and "wife" to complete their sweet little family.

The Corbett's extended family consists of their gentle and loving housekeeper, Mrs. Livingston, (Myoshi Umeki, Flower Drum Song) who blends her wise Asian philosophy into the mix; "Uncle" Norman (executive producer and co-star James Komack, Damn Yankees), who is editor Tom's best friend and partner/photographer at Tomorrow Magazine; and their mod and way-out assistant Tina Rickles (Kristina Holland, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home) who is always anxious to add some spiritual insight into life's situations. With this group you can't help but solve any family problem that tries to invade their happy home.

Guest stars Jodi Foster (The Brave One) as Joey Kelly, David Ketchum (Get Smart) as Joe Kelly, and Tippi Hedren (The Birds) as Board Chairman Cissy Drummond-Randolph return in this season, while guest appearances are made by Suzanne Pleshette (The Bob Newhart Show) as Miss Bessinger, and Will Geer (The Waltons) as Eddie's grandfather Harry Madison, among others. The episodes focus on Eddie's generosity, his discipline, his family loved ones and relationships, and expanding his love to share his father with others. While Norman and Tina seem to get back together, Tom struggles with the romantic side of life: he's swept off his feet by Miss Bessinger; feels the strength of a Womens' Libber (Lori Saunders, Petticoat Junction ), and can't get to first base with Brenda (Brenda Benet, Days of Our Lives, and real life future wife of Bixby).

The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete Second Season is positive family entertainment and would be a great asset for any family DVD library -- and, I can hardly wait until Season Three comes out! I believe that the time is ripe for the renewing of these episodes and even perhaps a more current Eddie's Father series. Our American culture is so focused on family and fatherhood that these original uncut classic episodes just might melt away the awkwardness of bonding and share some insight on companionship, nurturing, and becoming a best friend.

Keep in mind that Warner Bros. manufactures the original uncut version of The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete Second Season on demand, so check out their link below to order your copy soon. Notation: This disc is expected to play back in DVD video "play only" devices, and may not play back in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.
